Dominion Power announced on January 23rd three additional alternative routes for the Meadow Brook to Loudoun Transmission Line have been proposed.  "These alternatives are a direct result of our conversations with the people who came to our workshops last fall and continue to contact us," said Paul D. Koonce, chief executive officer, Dominion Energy.  The proposals take into account some of the concerns that have been expressed to date, but they do not address the fundamental question of the "need" for the lines at all.  To date, Dominion Power has not provided the projection data they claim necessitates the line.  To view the Dominion Power press release, click here

Congressmen Davis and Wolf to Attend County Power Line Town Hall Meeting

As testament to the galvanizing force of the Dominion Power proposal, Congressmen Tom Davis and Frank Wolf have committed to attending the Prince William County Power Line Town Hall meeting on January 24th, 2007 at Battlefield High School from 7:30 - 9:30 pm (for directions, click here).  The meeting will be hosted by Gainesville District Supervisor, John Stirrup and will also feature State Delegate Bob Marshall who will discuss the numerous Bills he has introduced in the State House to combat the Transmission line proposals.  To see the Bills currently proposed in the State House and Senate, click here.  All area residents are strongly encouraged to attend, as a true show of solidarity is critical to defeating this proposal.

Power Rally Planned for the General Assembly

On Thursday, January 25th, 2007, multiple groups from around the Virginia will converge on the State House to demonstrate the strength of the opposition to unnecessary transmission lines, the abuse of the powers of eminent domain and the basic lack of sustainable energy policy which encourages energy conservation and increased efficiency.   The rally will be held at the Darden Gardens (directly outside the General Assembly building) and will be followed by a Public Hearing on energy and transmission legislation chaired by Senator Chuck Colgan and Delegate Joe May.

 Transportation
Buses will be available for anyone interested in attending, and to RSVP for a seat or to simply get directions to the General Assembly Building in Richmond, click here.  The buses will load in the Dominion Valley Market Square (behind SunTrust Bank), and will leave for Richmond at 11:00 a.m. Please plan on brining a lunch for the ride.  The buses will return after the public hearing is complete.

Sign the Online Petition!!!! - Whether the power lines affect your home and property value directly or not, the many issues in this battle, including the precedent of private entity condemnation powers, preservation of conservation areas and scenic vistas, and the protection of sensitive wetland areas and historically significant property, have a profound impact on every citizen of Virginia and the Country.  To join the thousands who have already signed the petition in opposition to the powerlines, click here

Letter Writing - The pen is mightier than the sword, and all efforts now  need to be focused on the letter writing campaign to our elected officials and the representatives at the U.S. Dept. of Energy.  The latest contact information for all of the above has been updated (click here), and we need to have our voices heard.  The DOE should be the first stop (see below), but write early and often.   To view a general letter writing outline for writing to the critical officials, click here.

This website was created as an information resource for  Dominion Power's proposed power line extension that could potentially impact homes and lifestyles in areas in and around the Haymarket area.  As you may have seen in an article in the November 27th Washington Post, Dominion Power is currently studying installation corridors for extending power from West Virginia to a N.O.V.E.C. Substation located in Southern Loudoun county.  This power line would be carried by 125 - 150 foot towers running for approximately 40 miles through a 150 foot-wide easement along this entire corridor.  What did not receive explicit coverage in the Post article is the fact that some of the primary routes under consideration run directly through high density residential areas of Haymarket as well as the historic and scenic areas of Fauquier County.

By looking closely at the high resolution map of the general corridor study area showing proposed power line routes in red, you can see the overall path of the line.

Clicking on the “DVCC Route Map II”, which is a smaller-scale map that focuses on the area in and around Dominion Valley and where the proposed power lines (shown as the dotted black lines) might be installed.  This last map also includes landmarks that may help clarify the location of your home relative to the proposed power line locations.  As you will see the proposed locations run through the Little Bull Run Creek Valley and through the newly reserved Silver Lake park or along the Western and Northern boundaries of our community, which would decimate the buffers delineated by the Prince William County  “rural crescent”.

While there remain many questions regarding this project, including the very need for the additional power service at all, the timeframe for the installation and activation of the lines is approximately five years.
